FAQ on Ginseng

Q1. How many kinds of ginsengs are there and what's the differences in their function?

There are basically two kinds of ginseng: the North-American ginseng (e.g., Wisconsin ginseng) and the Asian ginseng (e.g., Chinese and Korean ginseng).

Ginseng is the most precious Natural Herb in Chinese medicine.  It has been used for thousands of
years to improve the overall health of human being by adjusting the internal balance of Yin-Yang within your body. (In ancient Chinese philosophical wisdom, everything in the world can be divided into a combination and balance of Yin (femine, negative, cool, etc...) and Yang (masculine, positive, hot, etc...).) The differences between American ginseng and Asian Ginseng is that American ginseng is of Yin (Cool) in nature; it functions through rejuvernating, refreshing your mind and body to a better state of well-being to give you energy.  Asian ginseng is of Yang (Hot) in nature; it functions through exciting your mind and body to boost your energy.

Q2. How to tell apart American ginseng from Asian ginseng ?

(1) The wrinkles on American ginseng are horizontal running around ginseng roots and branches, while the wrinkles on Asian ginseng are vertical running along the ginseng roots and branches. (2) The neck of American ginseng is much thinner than the diameter of the ginseng root, while the neck of Asian ginseng is much thicker, only slightly smaller than the diameter of the ginseng root. (3) While chewing on it. American ginseng tastes first a bit sweet and then turn to bitter; Asian ginseng tastes bitter at the first bite.

Q2. What's special about Wisconsin ginseng ?

Due to the special water and soil as well as weather conditions in the northern part of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin ginseng is the best among the North-American ones with a very high content of ginseng ingredients.

Q3. What's the common ways of eating ginseng ?

(1) Ginseng soup: Pick up a few ounces of roots, boil for a few hours with small fire, and drink the soup. The roots can be re-used for a few times, and can be taken at the last time. Other flavor can be added to the soup, e.g., adding a few jujube may cure some of your stomach problems.

(2) Ginseng tea: You can make ginseng tea with very small pieces of ginseng tails or fibers just like making regular tea. You may also directly put small pieces of ginseng in mouth chewing on it.

(3) Ginseng meal: You can add ginseng as an additional flavor or ingredient to almost any meals you wish. The most popular one may be the chicken soup with ginseng.
